Synopsis
“The Very Hungry Dragon” is a cute, vividly illustrated story about a group of goats and a dragon that keeps taking all their food.

My Thoughts
This is another children’s book that was recently available free on Amazon. Here are my pros and cons for The Very Hungry Dragon:

Pros

  1. This book is super colorful and the illustrations by Joe Shawcross are simply phenomenal.
  2. Some of the scenes in this story made me giggle (particularly when the goats are in the lake). If I’m giggling, kids are going to be belly-laughing!
  3. This book was written by a six-year-old boy!! Yes, you read that correctly – SIX! The story is exactly the kind of silly adventure I’d expect from a young child and that is exactly what makes it special. The story is simple, straightforward, and has a happy ending… and I think it is perfect.
  4. At the beginning of the book there is a page with a picture of a caterpillar (at least I think it is a caterpillar) named Heidi. Heidi is hiding on each set of pages in the book. So not only do you get a cute story, but you can have fun searching for Heidi in the story!  And trust me, you want to find her because her antics and expressions are hilarious!

Cons
None!

Summary
Admittedly, the hilarious and colorful illustrations definitely help make this book awesome… but the illustrations are nothing without the story as well. I think any family with a child who loves to create stories – either in their heads or on paper – needs to see this book! This awesome book proves that anyone can write fun, silly stories! Even if you do not have a budding author in your family, this is still a fun book for any child. It is recommended for children ages 3 to 6, but I’m guessing there are some parents/caregivers/teachers out there that would appreciate this book, also! I sure did!
