April 2020 Reading Wrap-up! #BookBlog #BookReview #WrapUp

April felt like the longest month of my entire life, but I still only finished 8 books! I realize that since I have been working from home I have been missing the audiobooks I typically listen to on my morning commute. I usually complete at least 4 audiobooks each month so that is why my numbers are currently down… at least down from normal for me. I’m not complaining though! The books I read this month were generally fantastic so I am going to consider it quality over quantity this month!!

Now the details! Below you will find a summary of my April reading, upcoming books, and my reading stats so far this year.

Books Completed/Reviews Posted

  1. Small Spaces by Katherine Arden ★★★★☆
  2. Verity by Colleen Hoover ★★★★★
  3. When I Was You by Minka Kent ★★★☆☆
  4. The Crayon Man: The True Story of the Invention of Crayola Crayons by Natascha Biebow, Steven Salerno (Illustrator) ★★★★★
  5. The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni ★★★★★
  6. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White ★★★★★

Finished Reading in April (reviews to be posted in May)

  1. The Secrets of Love Story Bridge by Phaedra Patrick – Book Tour with review to be posted in May. I rated it 4 stars.
  2. Night Swim by Megan Goldin – ARC. I rated it 5 stars.

  1. Hubris Falls by Matthew S. Hiley – This was a NetGalley ARC I’ve been trying to read since last fall. It just wasn’t holding my attention so I finally decided to mark it DNF.
  2. Ten Days Gone by Beverly Long – This is another NetGalley ARC I had to DNF. It is hard for me to give up on books I get from NetGalley, but life is too short to read books that aren’t interesting me!

Currently Reading

  1. This is How I Lied by Heather Gudenkauf – ARC/Book Tour
  2. Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk by Nikolai Leskov – personal choice

Up Next in my Reading Queue

  1. The Essence of Darkness by Tom Clearlake – ARC
  2. The Apartment by K.L. Slater – ARC
  3. When I Meet You by Olivia Newport – ARC
  4. Subversive by Raena Rood – ARC
  5. Nothing Can Hurt You by Nicola Maye Goldberg – ARC
  6. The Safe Place by Anna Downes – ARC
  7. The Vacation by T.M. Logan – ARC
  8. Crossings by Alex Landragin – ARC
  9. Pale Morning Light with Violet Swan by Deborah Reed – ARC
  10. Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell – ARC

I’m really hoping I can get through at least 8 of these ARCs in May.

2020 Readings Stats

As of April 30, 2020, I have read 38 of the 104 books I challenged myself to read this year. According to Goodreads, I am 4 books ahead of schedule… which means I am still off pace a bit since I was 6 books ahead in March!

That’s it for April! I pray that everyone is staying healthy and reading great books!

  1. The Night Swim was complex and amazing! Definitely though-provoking. I definitely recommend it and I hope to get my review posted this weekend.

I’m looking forward to Invisible Girl, too! I love Jewell’s books!
