Synopsis from Goodreads
Destination North Pole! Santa’s top reindeer, Vixen Pederson, is hosting a teamwork workshop—and Ronaldo has his flying goggles packed and ready to go!

In training for a sleigh race, the cadets must work together to win the ultimate prize—Jingle Bells! But Ronaldo’s dream turns into a nightmare when Cupid joins his side. She’s the worst flying cadet, ever! And his squabbling teammates are plotting to put her out of the race.

But Cupid isn’t who she appears to be. And when Ronaldo discovers she is the granddaughter of a world famous flying champion, he suspects she is guarding a secret. And the only way to lead his team to victory—is to find out what it is.

 My Thoughts
This is the fourth book in the Ronaldo the Flying Reindeer series and it is just as great as its predecessors! Here are my pros and cons for Ronaldo: The Vixen Pederson Workshop:

Pros

  1. As with the previous books, the focus on being a good friend is strong in this story. Ronaldo always tries to include everyone in the activities he’s involved in, even when his other friends wish he would exclude certain people. Ronaldo is a compassionate character and his kindness is infectious to everyone around him. Kindness is always a good behavior to reinforce in a children’s book.
  2. Ronaldo is also encouraging and thoughtful. He is never jealous when his friends succeed (even when he doesn’t) and he is always the first to step up to help others reach their goals. Teamwork was a strong theme in this book.
  3. Ronaldo also helps others get past their insecurities. I wish every kid could have a friend like Ronaldo!
  4. At the cost of being repetitive with my reviews of the other books in this series, I have to say again that the illustrations (created by the author) are phenomenal, fun, and definitely enhance the story.
  5. There is a cute scene in the story where Ronaldo eats too many carrots dipped in chocolate and gets a massive tummy ache. Later, while practicing his flying, a large, um… gas leak from his backside propels him way too fast and way too high in the air! Kids will love this part of the story!
  6. The carrot-related food items eaten by Ronaldo and his friends are hilarious!
  7. I love how Vixen Pederson is treated like a superstar. It makes me laugh!
  8. I learned a few new words from this story – collywobbles and blancmange. If I didn’t know those words, then I’m sure the target audience (7-9 year olds) won’t likely know them either, unless this is a UK versus US thing. Either way, new words are always a delight to come upon and I personally enjoy expanding my vocabulary. By the way collywobbles (according to Merriam-Webster online) simply means bellyache, and blancmange (literally translated as white food) is a sweetened or flavored dessert made from gelatinous or starchy ingredients and milk. Now you know!
  9. At the end of the book there is a visit from a very famous North Pole resident! Kids will love it!

Cons

None. There is simply nothing to dislike.

Summary
As with the previous books, this installment of Ronaldo continues to emphasize kindness, helping others, trusting others, and being a good friend. This book also specifically includes teamwork as a theme. All of these behaviors are wonderful for kids to experience in books. And don’t forget that it is a super cute story as well!

The holidays are coming! If you have a young reader in your household I’m confident they’d love this book and the entire Ronaldo series. If you are interested in my review of book #2 and #3 in the series, click the titles below:
