Livy is visiting her grandmother in Australia after a five year absence. Now that she’s there, she has the feeling she has forgotten something really important. Turns out that the really important thing is a green creature dressed in a chicken suit that has been living in a closet waiting for Livy to return to him because she promised to help him find his way home. This story is about keeping that promise.
This is tough book for me to review. I really enjoy reading middle grade books. Most of them are fantastic and can appeal to readers of all ages. This one did not appeal to me as an adult. I can see where a child might like the story – perhaps ages 5 to 8 or so – it is sweet and simple and has fairy tale elements to it. But as an adult, the story fell a little flat for me. There was no emotional connection for me to the characters at all – and other middle grade books have brought tears to my eyes! Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood for this book at the time I read it. I did not hate this book, but it was “just okay” in my opinion.
